Winchester (determined by PR dates) first started using the superposed “WP” Winchester Definitive proof mark in May 1905, and ongoing to use it on most models from that point on. In my surveys, I have verified that day for the Product 1885, Product 1894, and Model 1897, And that i feel that Michael has verified the identical to the Design 1892. Winchester right from the start marked both of those the barrel plus the receiver.

At what issue was the “Circle VP” for “Viewed Proved” stamp placed on the underside of the barrel–subsequent the large load screening, the “VP” getting utilized after the visual inspection from the barrel? The “VP” is identified on every single 1892 and 1894 barrel I have witnessed from the start to the end of production, bridging the day for the looks with the “WP”.
